Ystradowen has an opportunity to help shape and input into how community funding linked to the new Maple Walk development could be used.
What is Section 106 funding?
This funding, known as Section 106 funding, is provided through the planning process to help support local improvements. The money is not a general village fund and there are rules about what it can and cannot be spent on. At this stage, the main areas of funding are understood to include:
• Sustainable transport and access, such as dropped kerbs and improvements to the bus stop (direction of Pontyclun), e.g. a new bus shelter or improving the layby.
• Public open space and community facilities, such as improvements to play areas across the village and outside the development itself, e.g. Parc Owain and the Badgers Brook Drive play area.
Why a new survey?
A village survey was carried out in 2024, which gave useful feedback on what residents value and what could be improved. This new survey is focused specifically on the Maple Walk funding opportunity.
We want to hear from as many residents as possible, including people of all ages and from all parts of the village. There are no right or wrong answers. Even a few words are helpful.
What happens next?
The survey results will be reviewed and shared with the village. A public meeting will then be held at Ystradowen Village Hall to discuss the findings and agree the village’s priorities. These will be shared with Penllyn Community Council and the Vale of Glamorgan Council.
Deadline
Please return your responses by Saturday 14 November 2026 digitally or hard copies to Rod Howells, 3 Badgers Brook Drive, Ystradowen.
