In December 2002 the local secondary school bus crashed on its approach to the Village. One young resident lost his life and many others were injured. This was a significantly traumatic event for many local families and for the wider area.
In the aftermath of the tragedy local residents raised funds for the establishment of a memorial garden and pergola/bench in a quiet and reflective corner of Parc Owain, located behind the Village Hall. Following completion YCSA and residents voluntarily undertook to maintain the small garden.
It continues to be regularly used by residents and others who wish to take time out with their thoughts and to enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
